Gallery Launch Event: 29th Jan, 7 – 9pm
Put on by Seattle Theatre Group
Seattle Theatre Group (STG) presents Re:definition, a new project in The Paramount Theatre's lobby bar that aims to redefine historic cultural space in the form of an art gallery for local visual artists. The gallery will offer rotating exhibits throughout the coming season, all of which will fall under the mission of Illuminating Black art in Seattle.
The inaugural exhibit is curated by Jonathan Moore and Tariqa Waters and will feature works from Ari Glass and Aramis Hamer. The exhibit opens with a launch party, which is free and open to the public, on January 29 from 7-9 pm in the Paramount Lobby and Bar. The current exhibit will be on display from January 29, 2016 to May 31, 2016.
To expand the conversation on the importance of space and how it can be illuminating, STG will be showcasing three visual art exhibits featuring black artists and their work within the context of an historic space. Future exhibits will continue to focus on illustrating the work of local visual artists responding to issues of importance, as STG keeps evolving the ways in which they use the space(s). The anticipated impact of this new thrust for the Paramount Theatre Lobby Bar is an expanded awareness of the multiplicity of voices that are resident in the community.
