2231 1st Ave, Seattle 98109
Put on by KelseyPollock, The Belltown Collective
This fall Seattle artists KeseyPollock (the collaboration between Steph Kesey and Erin Pollock) raised $45,712 on Kickstarter to support a multimedia art installation. One of the most-funded art projects in Kickstarter history, this installation incorporated an unusual list of sculpting materials including 3000 pounds of Crisco, wax, butter, and other melting substances. For a year, Kesey and Pollock have been in their studio in the International District transforming these materials into lifelike human sculptures, then melting them to create images (photographs and video) of transition and transformation. At the center of this new body of work is an experimental film. Lifelike sculptures melt into abstract color fields and from desolate landscape-like imagery emerge human forms. Neither explicit nor didactic, you can feel the human hand and heart in KeseyPollock’s work. Along with the looped projection, the installation will feature photographs, prints, drawings and paintings of the process. These works will be available for sale at the show.
The opening will be a celebration of both this new body of work and the community of 340 Kickstarter contributors who made it all possible. This promises to be a huge party, including a peruvian cebiche bar, drinks (cash only bar) and a DJ. This event is open to the public. All are welcome!
