Exploring how artists engage the ongoing challenges of American iconography, identity, history, and formal inheritances, Becoming American is an international group exhibition taking place on the grounds of the American and English camps at San Juan Island National Historical Park and satellite venues in the city of Seattle. It is the first annual exhibition project of Cefalonia, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing international contemporary art to the Pacific Northwest through site-specific projects.
Featured artists include Dan Attoe, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Paul Stephen Benjamin, Gretchen Francis Bennett, Mathew Brannon, Cat Clifford, Jasper Johns, Brian Jungen, Eyvind Kang, Duane Linklater, Lynne McCabe, Jeffry Mitchell, Lavar Munroe, Helen O’Leary, Jennifer Perlin, Adrian Piper, Pope L., R.H. Quaytman, Ruth Robbins, Aram Saroyan, Dori Hana Scherer, Barbara Earl Thomas, Rodrigo Valenzuela, Anna Von Mertens, and Marie Watt.
